Barcelona Obradors

A dozen people placed a few cartons on the floor and spray paints and templates are giving way to placards with the slogan Stop evictions. The scene occurred last Friday in the street of Barcelona Obradors. It is the last pint and color that the organizers of the demonstration today, convened in 50 cities throughout Spain by the platform for people affected by the mortgage (PAH) prepare. The associations claim a legal change that will allow the dation in payment, that to stop evictions and that families unable to afford the mortgage may remain rent in their homes. Those gathered may seem few and its arsenal, harmless. But the movement articulated by the PAH is the most daring and effective challenge to date against one of the most appalling consequences of the crisis: 15.491 families that from January to March this year in Spain – more than 150 a day, according to data from the General Council of the judiciary – have been driven out of his home due to not pay the mortgage payments. Those affected, however, not only have lost their home. The banks covered by the law and after staying with the story, still claiming them up to half of the amount of appropriations that was granted.
